Jit Basak
For Needham Park & Recreation Commissioner
& Town Meeting Member Precinct J
Hello Everyone! I’ve lived in Needham for 13 years and coached youth sports for over a decade. I participate in sports and volunteer recreation. I understand the need for diverse options for all ages and have seen its positive impact. I have a passion for sports, inclusion, and ensuring programs are accessible. Thus, I am running for Needham Park and Recreation Commissioner for the upcoming election.
Our family’s extensive involvement with Needham Park & Recreation, from the Sharks Swim Team to summer camps, has instilled in me a strong desire to support its growth. I’m committed to leveraging my experience and passion to help elevate its professionalism and ensure its enduring success.

My Top Priorities
My vision centers on inclusivity and accessibility. I believe our parks should be welcoming spaces for all ages and abilities.
Expand Field Access
Investigate strategies for year-round field utilization and implement measures to reduce field closures.
Develop New Recreational Facilities
Prioritize the creation of pickleball courts and an action/skate park, additional outdoor basketball courts.
Establish Dog-Friendly Spaces
Explore off-leash options and identify an ideal location for a dedicated dog park.
Enhance Revenue and Programming
Implement strategies to boost programming and rental revenue, and create recreational opportunities for teens and seniors in collaboration with the CATH.
Ensure Inclusive Recreation
Conduct community outreach, surveys, and collaborate with organizations like the Council on Aging and the Commission on Disabilities to guarantee all Park and Recreation projects and activities are inclusive and accessible.
Explore Winter Activity Options
Investigate the feasibility of establishing winter activities, such as a skating rink.
Let’s work together to create a truly inclusive and dynamic Parks & Recreation experience for Needham!
I bring a unique perspective as a scientist and entrepreneur, allowing me to approach
challenges with creativity and innovation. I’m dedicated to working with the Parks and
Recreation Department to enhance existing programs and develop new initiatives that will
benefit our community for years to come.
My favorite program, the Needham Sharks Swim Team, exemplifies the positive impact of our
parks and recreation. It fosters teamwork, builds confidence, and creates lasting memories for
our youth. I want to build on this success and ensure that every resident of Needham has
access to enriching and enjoyable recreational experiences.
